It's a curse, really.
When I became "A Big Girl" (i.e.: moved out of my mom's house), I was gifted my first vacuum from my dad. It was a nice solid thing that got the job done. After a few years, it petered out. And instead of investing in a quality vacuum, I replaced it with a so-so vacuum.
And it lasted.
For a little while.
And the cycle continued. Purchase crappy vacuum. Vacuum works okay for a little while. Vacuum dies. Steph purchases another crappy vacuum.
I knew that quality brands like Dyson existed, even if only in my dreams. I knew that while a financial investment, these vacuums would see you to the grave. But did I invest wisely? No. And I have truly paid for it.
So it was a cleaner's dream to have the opportunity to review the newest Dyson to hit the shelves at Best Buy: The Dyson DC59 Animal Bagless Cordless Stick Vacuum.
I don't even know where to start.
Do I start by saying it's cordless? That's right. No more ballroom dancing with your upright vacuum trying to avoid the cord while getting your carpet clean. No trying to vacuum too far across the room and accidentally pulling the plug out of the wall. Instead of wrestling a plug, you can just put it on it's wall-mounted charging station until you are ready to use (a full charge gives you 26 minutes of cleaning time! That's an entire episode of New Girl!)
Perhaps I should lead off with the fact that the Dyson DC59 is bagless. Yes. That means no buying stacks of bags and wrestling to fit it onto the tube. No overfull bags bursting, leaving vacuumed remains all over your floor. And that despite not having a bag, this vacuum has 3 times the suction of any other cordless vacuum in use.
No, no. I'll talk about the fact that the Dyson Animal is a stick vacuum that performs like an upright vacuum. This baby only weighs 4.65 lbs! No more lugging around a dense contraption from room to room! It has a re-engineered brush bar for hard floor and carpet cleaning, which means you can go from hardwood to carpet seamlessly.
Or maybe I'll just tell you my favorite part: vacuuming staircases.
Oh. My. Gah.
I can't tell you how incompetent I used to feel cleaning stairs before meeting the Dyson DC59. I would plug in my corded, heavy upright and attempt to lug it step by step. The attachments never had the same suction, so they were useless. And cleaning with the entire vacuum was inefficient since it was wider than the stairs. The Dyson DC59 has so many great attachments to help with stair cleaning, and the brush is streamline. But if you want to get really snazzy, you can detach the stick unit and use it like a dust buster! Check it out:
It is so light and sucks up ALL THE THINGS. The first day the vacuum came in the mail, I cleaned my stairs three times because I was so excited at how easy it was!
Some more specifications to blow your mind:
o The V6 motor spins 5 times faster than a Formula One race car engine
o 3 times smaller than a conventional vacuum motor
o 350 Watts
o 1.5 times more power than its predecessor
o 3.5 hour charging time (vs. 5 hour in the DC44)
o 15 cyclones, arranged across 2 tiers
o Work in parallel to increase airflow and capture fine dust
o Wider (approx. 10” vs. 8” on the DC44)
o Improved maneuverability due to smaller ball at the back
o Extended neck for greater ease of use
o Hygienic one-touch bin emptying, now on both sides (for lefties and righties). One push empties bin, 2nd push detaches bin completely for washing, etc.
o Easy to wash.
Oh yeah.
I'm in love.
Friends? It's time to break up with crappy vacuums and invest in a lifelong cleaning relationship. The Dyson DC59 is now available at Best Buy for $499.00 (bestbuy.com).
