Just Keep Swimming

We all woke up today.

Maybe you woke up ready to face the day: energized, excited, hopeful and motivated about what the day would bring. You woke up with a stirring in your heart, butterflies in your tummy, throwing open the curtains to let the sun in.

Maybe you woke up with a mission: a to-do list to tackle, a schedule to keep, a moxie attitude. Today your goal, if you choose to accept it, is be productive. You are ready to feel the sense of accomplishment that comes with a long checklist completed.

Maybe you woke up today anxious: dreading, avoiding, not ready to face what life has thrown at you. maybe it's another day in a string of many rough days. You cringe at the thought of another burden being added, quite sure you will buckle under the weight of it all. Hoping today will be different, fearful that it won't.

Maybe you woke up today indifferent: lacking passion, void of purpose, ready to live another day in monotony. You long for excitement, but you are resigned to the same ol' same ol'. Today is yet another Monday infected with a case of the Mondays.

Maybe you woke up aching: sad, struggling, alone. You can't bear the thought of putting one foot in front of the other, drowning in your circumstances, not sure if the sun could possibly be shining despite the fact that world is bright all around you. Today you don't want to be overcome, but can't stop the momentum toward destruction.

Maybe you woke up restless: a mind and heart full of grand ideas with no way to fulfill them. There is a  stirring to try something new, but you can't put your finger on what. You are ready for a new adventure, to shake off the definitions of the current you, and you wait expectantly for a new adventure to come your way.

Maybe you just woke up. With no expectations. No hopes. No dreams. Nothing on the schedule. You woke up, putting your feet on the floor and walking down the stairs the way you always do. Today you are a blank canvas, unwilling to be caged in by the restrictions and boundaries of a Monday.

Friends, we all woke up today. And I'm not sure how you woke up, what is bringing you excitement, what is bringing you down.  But today is a new day. An opportunity to start over. A chance to look at life with fresh eyes.  A chance to choose your own destiny, dream new dreams, write your own story.

However you started today, just keep swimming. And believe that an adventure lies ahead, that something wonderful is about to happen.

Own today.
