With the impending storm beginning to rumble outside, I can't help but get giddy for sledding tomorrow! I'm excited to take Little Chica sledding again. Is it bad that I am slightly more excited to go sledding myself? Don't judge me.
Lots of the stores were out of sleds (and eggs...and milk...and chocolate), so if any of you tried to grab one last minute, you might have left unhappy and empty-handed. And, really, what fun is a snowstorm if you can't go out and enjoy it?
I got to brainstorming alternative means of sledding. Just looking around the house, I came up with a few ideas pretty quickly. My memory was jogged, and I was reminded of all the ways I managed to go sledding without an official sled as a kid. Check out what I have compiled below.
No one, and I mean NO ONE, should be left inside on a snow day. This has been a Public Service Announcement.
So here is my running list! If you have more ideas, leave a comment or email me, and I will add it to the list:
1) Cardboard Box (more like a little car than a sled, but it can be a lot of fun!)
2) Plastic Storage Bin (see above. This might work better than cardboard)
3) Plastic Storage Bin Top
4) Heavy-Duty Garbage Bags
5) Cookie Sheet
6) Plastic Tray (We used to steal them from the dining hall to go sledding in college)
7) Plastic Binder (if your butt is small enough)
8) Plastic Laundry Basket (this should get some nice speed)
9) Wax Paper (I'd imagine this works best if it's slightly icy, but not as well in powder)
10) Outdoor Trash Can Lid
Send me YOUR Alternative Sled ideas! Major props to the most unique one. And if you try any out tomorrow (or, if you are crazy, tonight), let me know how it works out for you!
Happy Sledding!
